Half a year of blogging, check! Six months truly is not a long time, especially compared to the bloggers that have been doing this for a decade. Read the progress (and lack thereof) that beautybrainsblush.com experienced this month in the sixth month blog growth report!

6th Month Blog Growth and Income Report

Why I post blog growth and income reports:

When I started my journey of blogging, I read lots of posts titled “blog income reports” and “blog growth reports” where bloggers post all their traffic and monetary numbers for their readers to see, to be completely transparent about everything they do!

The first income report I read was by Create And Go, which they update monthly here. They have great info and you should check them out if you’re interested in blogging.Create And Go is a very successful blog, with many followers and high SEO ranking. Comparatively, I found very few new bloggers that post growth reports or income reports in the early stages of their blog.

Most people wait 4-6 months, or maybe a whole year, to post a growth report – enough time for them to build a social media presence and gain authority online.

I decided to start monthly growth reports at the beginning of my blogging career to show the process from the very start of creating a new blog! These blogging reports will include growth and income information, social media information, as well as my goals for the following month of blogging!

General Information:

  • I launched BeautyBrainsBlush.com on December 1, 2018
  • This report covers month six, from May 1 – 31, 2019
  • I published 14 blog posts this month! (9 of which were new product posts – the beauty community needs to slow down!)

Page Views and Users

Goals I had for this month:

  • 15k users
  • 18k page views

This month’s statistics:

  • 5,685 users (down from 11.9k)
  • 7,129 page views (down from 14.1k)

Google Analytics May 2019

As you can see, my users went down a lot this month. However, this is almost exactly the number of users I had last month, minus that one very popular new release post – which isn’t guaranteed to happen monthly or become evergreen (obviously it didn’t, since my numbers dropped!).

For transparency, I will also admit that I’ve slacked a lot this month. There were so many new products that I didn’t write many “good” information focused articles, and I haven’t been consistently been promoting any of my content.

Goals for next month:

Same as this month’s:

  • 15k users
  • 18k page views

Acquisition

Goals I had for this month:

  • Focus on Pinterest traffic and articles that will do well on Pinterest!

This month’s statistics:

Acquisition May 2019

Unlike the last few months, the majority of my social traffic came from Pinterest: 84%!

I didn’t focus on Pinterest nearly as much as I should’ve, but I have had a couple popular pins this month – more on this later.

Goals for next month:

Write articles based on Pinterest recommendations.

Email

Goals I had for this month:

  • Brainstorm freebies
  • Put out a freebie
  • 60 subscribers

This month’s statistics:

  • 40 subscribers (up from 34)

Not as big of an increase as last month, but I do expect next month to be better.

I currently don’t have any opt-ins, but I just made one. Hopefully that will help boost stats!

Goals for next month:

  • 90 subscribers (goal to gain 50 from opt in)

Shameless plug:

Social Media

Goals I had for this month:

  • Post post POST!
  • Post some videos. 3 short ones maybe?
  • Go live at LEAST 1x week on IG.

This month’s statistics:

  • Pinterest: 4,131 followers, 3 million monthly reach
(up from 3076 followers and 2.2 million monthly reach)
Really happy with my follower growth this month! It’s a couple hundred more than last month, and I broke past that 2 million reach mark. I know this monthly reach number doesn’t actually mean anything, but I’m glad that some pins of mine are going viral and boosting it, so more of my pins will reach people!
I also mentioned popular pins earlier. The pins that were popular weren’t my own BUT they do still boost my account. 🙂
  • Instagram: 1381 followers
    (up from 1371 followers)
IG is SO hard. I’ve probably gained 50 followers this month, lost 60, gained 30, lost 20… You get it.
  • Facebook: 84 followers
    (up from 81)
Honestly, I haven’t done anything for Facebook or my group. No videos, no lives. I made a video for a look I did, but I think it’s awful so I didn’t post it – I only want high quality content. IG and FB very much discourage me.
  • Twitter: 14 followers, I don’t really use Twitter I just have the account.

Goals for next month:

  • Go live more – 2x week IG, maybe also FB.
  • Get serious about starting Youtube.

I think Youtube would be a great platform for me to really explain and show things related to beauty. I’m scared to do it, but I feel like it’s the next step.

Income

Goals I had for this month:

  • $250
  • publish a shopping page
  • update deals page

This month’s statistics:

I did publish my shop page! Check it out, let me know what you think.

I definitely did not reach the $ goal though…

My AdSense revenue is a lot smaller this month because I simply DIDN’T put ads in new articles. Instead, I’ve focused more on linking affiliate links – and I feel like doing both looks spammy. I’d rather have affiliate links than ads.

  • Google AdSense: $2.83
  • Amazon Affiliates: $.95
  • RewardStyle: $23.77

Total for this month, $27.55

I know it’s normal to have slower months, and periods of time when the numbers all go down instead of up. But dang, when it actually happens to you, it really sucks!

Goals for next month:

  • $250
  • update deals page again
  • advertise deals page more on Pinterest/FB
  • post affiliate links for newly launched products on FB? (I don’t know if this would help with my small audience)

I won’t actually receive all this money until I reach minimum thresholds (like $100 for AdSense) but this is what I have earned during the month of May.

My expenses for this month (besides pre-paid hosting and Tailwind) included $10 for Canva business.

Future Goals

  • Try to not be discouraged so easily

This isn’t a tangible goal for blogging, but it’s important for me. I wasn’t doing too well with blogging early in the month, and it impacted my outlook for the rest of the month so I didn’t try as hard. I need to be more focused and positive!

  • Start Youtube

I know it would take some time away from blogging, but I think I could also use videos for blog posts AND Youtube! Being able to SEE someone use a beauty product is so necessary and it would allow me to explain things in more depth.

As always, I hope my sixth month blog report was helpful for you – whether you’re a reader of beautybrainsblush and want to know the truth behind the blog, or you’re another blogger that loves reading about the honest journey of blogging!
