5 BEST Prom Makeup Tips

Prom season is coming quickly! Whether you’re rolling up solo, have a date, or hanging with a group of friends, you’ll remember your prom forever. You’ll also have prom photos forever… so you definitely want your makeup to look good! Here are my five best prom makeup tips for your special dance.

1. Make your look last longer with a primer

Using a primer that is compatible with your skin type and foundation is essential to make your makeup last longer!

If your prom is like mine, you’ll be ready in the afternoon and be partying it up through the night. Your makeup needs to be long wearing to make it through the entire evening.

My current favorite primer is the Touch in Sol No Poreblem primer, but an Elf primer is a low cost alternative that is great too.

2. Create a flawless base

Ensuring that your foundation shade matches you, your products work well together, and your skin looks like skin is very helpful in making sure you look your best!

Things you want to avoid:

Caking too much foundation on
Using a foundation that isn’t right for your skin type
A poor shade match
Separation of products
Greasiness & oiliness
Transferring foundation onto clothes (like your dress or date’s tux!)

3. Avoid “Flashback Mary”

Yep, that was a jab at James Charles and his flashback-mishap!

Flashback is when the makeup product you use creates a white cast on your face during flash photography.

You’ll probably be taking tons of pictures with your date or friends, and your school/event will likely be taking pictures as well.

Typically, foundations and powders that have SPF cause flashback. Test your makeup BEFORE prom and take some flash pictures of yourself to make sure you won’t have this makeup fail!

4. Add false lashes for drama

Not for high school drama, but for a dramatic touch for your look.

Lashes are awesome, because they stand out and look very beautiful. They add a sense of glamour that cannot be achieved with any other makeup product!

They’re also great if you aren’t the best at eyeshadow, because false lashes will cover a lot of your eye and draw attention away from any uneven areas.

4.5 Bonus tip!

If you wear false lashes (whether you do them or a makeup artist does them for you!) MAKE SURE you bring lash glue with you!

After hours of taking pics in the wind, eating, dancing, and running around the venue, your lash band will probably start to fall off. You and your friends will thank you TONS if you have glue in your clutch!

This one is my FAVORITE for throwing in my purse, because the DUO brush tip lets you slap some glue on the lash even when it’s still half attached to your eye.

5. SET IT!

Make sure you invest in a setting spray, and spray your face a LOT with it.

I know, it feels weird at first drenching your fast in a mist – but they really DO help set your makeup!

Better yet, they also help your makeup melt into your skin and look better. I highly suggest investing in one – even if this is the only tip you follow, follow this one!

My favorites are the Morphe continuous setting mist and Skindinavia setting sprays (I used the Skindinavia Bridal spray for my wedding and holy cow, it was great!).
