Matte liquid lips are often called “transfer resistant,” which basically means they’re kiss-proof. These affordable kiss proof drugstore lipsticks are perfect for Valentines day (or any day, honestly).

Why do we love transfer resistant lipsticks?
SO many reasons! Here’s some of them:
- they last all day without having to reapply!
- you can eat and not worry about them wearing off, two bites into your sandwich
- no weird lipstick smears on your face
- you can kiss your boo without $20 of product coming off onto their cheek
What kind of lipsticks are transfer resistant?
In general, matte liquid lipsticks are the most likely to be transfer resistant.
However, not all matte liquid lips are transfer resistant, and occasionally other formulas might be!
Just like many makeup products, a higher cost doesn’t necessarily mean a better, more “kiss proof” lipstick.

The trick to the most kiss proof lips
- Exfoliate your lips often
This can be a fancy lip scrub or the old toothbrush trick, just anything to get dead skin off the surface of your lips. - Moisturize!
Typically, people apply lipstick last in their makeup routine. When you start your makeup, apply a lip balm or butter to make sure your lips are moisturized by the time you’re ready for lipstick. - Thin layers
Don’t put a thick, gloopy layer of lipstick on your lips! Line them if you want, then put a small thin layer of lipstick on your lips. Many formulas are very full coverage, and you probably need less than you think! If you need, you can add another layer until you’ve built up the color you want. - LET IT DRY!
This is a BIG one. Matte liquid lipsticks dry down to be transfer resistant, but will not be if you don’t let them fully dry down. Don’t try to kiss your S/O 2 minutes after you apply your lip – wait 5+ minutes, or however long it takes to REALLY be dry!

These Maybelline lippies are my favorite matte lipsticks. There is a huge shade range, they are very pigmented, and they last forever!
And, I can assure you that these ones are kiss proof – I wore one of these for my wedding, because I knew I wouldn’t get any lipstick on my groom!
I recommend these to all my friends, and everyone I know who has tried these love them. My favorite shades are Loyalist, Pioneer, and Seductress

Wet N Wild Liquid Catsuit Lipstick
If you’re looking for a very inexpensive option, these Catsuits are perfect for you.
These suckers are all under $5! Not only are they cheap, but they are AWESOME for a drugstore liquid lip.
Like the Maybelline ones, they dry matte and are transfer resistant. These are a little more drying to me than the Maybelline ones, but I still like them a lot! Plus, you can get them in some interesting colors, like black and blue lipsticks, especially around halloween time.
My personal favorite shades are Nudist Peach (the first shade in that row) and the fourth teal shade. The teal is more blue than green, but it is gorgeous and pigmented! Here it is on me.
No, it does NOT match the purple eyeshadow that I’m wearing, but I wanted to put on the lipstick just to show you beauties!
Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick
Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Liqiud Lipsticks are awesome, and I wish I owned all the shades.
My favorite shade is “Mama” which is a burnt orangey-red shade! It’s just different enough from my bright cool toned reds that I also love.
NOTE: Though these lipsticks are kiss proof, they aren’t makeout-proof. Feel free to give your boo a smooch or two, but if your lipstick gets wet it is more likely to come off (on both your face and your partner’s).
