Best Eyeshadow for Brown Eyes

Did you know that somewhere between 70-90% of the people in the world have brown eyes? Source. Because such a vast majority of the population has brown eyes, I wanted to talk about them first!

To be entirely honest, a LOT of colors can be paired with brown eyes. Brown is a very neutral color, which will match with nearly every other color eyeshadow you try!

Depending on the shade of brown of your eyes, you may prefer to lean towards warm tones (golden brown eyes) or cool tones (ashy brown eyes), and you can choose warm or cool versions of these colors accordingly.

The colors that look the best on brown eyes are:

  • browns
  • purples
  • blues
  • greens
  • golds (for warm toned brown eyes)
  • silvers (for cool toned brown eyes)

Think of it this way: Gorgeous gemstone shades look AMAZING on your eyes, and neutral brown shades always look great!

Best Eyeshadow for Green Eyes

While most of the people in the world have brown eyes, only a very small portion has green eyes!

Using color theory, you can figure out what colors will make your eyes pop the most by considering your eye color’s compliment. Green’s color compliment is red – but wearing vibrant RED eyeshadow can be intimidating, stain your eyelids due to heavy pigmentation, and hard to find. So what should you do? Wear deep pinks!

If you’re lucky enough to have gorgeous green eyes, here’s what you should wear with them:

  • Warm toned browns
  • Golds
  • Pinks – especially deep berry toned pinks
  • Purples

Best Eyeshadow for Hazel Eyes

Hazel eyes are the best of both brown and green eyes – you have the neutrality of brown eyes with the gorgeous flecks of gold and green color!

Because of the green and golden flecks of color found in hazel eyes, I recommend sticking to warmer tones rather than cooler tones.

Colors that look incredible with hazel eyes are:

  • Warm toned browns
  • Golds
  • Yellows
  • Greens
  • Purples

Best Eyeshadow for Blue Eyes

Blue is where the eye color spectrum takes a cooler turn. Since blue eyes tend to be much less warmed toned than brown, green, and hazel eyes, the eyeshadow shades that look best on this eye color reflect that!

I personally LOVE cool, neutral brown and taupe shades. Because my skin is cool toned, I feel like they look better on my complexion! Likewise, they tend to look amazing on people with cool blue eyes.

If you have blue eyes, you should try to wear:

  • cool browns
  • cool taupes
  • greys
  • silvers
  • blues
  • soft oranges
  • corals and light pinks

WOAH THERE. Didn’t I just say that blue eyes are cool toned? In what world is orange and coral cool toned?!

Remember when we talked about green eyes, and I mentioned that complimentary colors make your eyes pop? Orange is the compliment to blue, so wearing oranges and corals will make your gorgeous eyes stand out even more!

Best Eyeshadow for Grey Eyes

Gray, grey – however you spell it, there are a lot of colors that look great with this color of eyes.

Grey eyes are even more cool toned than blue eyes! You can follow the blue eyes guide for the best shades, plus add a few more fun colors to that list.

When we looked at the other eye colors, we took into consideration the complimentary colors (such as green and red!) that would make that eye color really POP!

Because grey is a true neutral cool toned color, you don’t have a true compliment – but you also won’t clash with any color you choose.

I recommend sticking with cooler toned neutrals (cool browns instead of reddish-warm browns), but otherwise, you can choose any bright color of your liking!

Best shades for grey eyes:

  • cool browns
  • cool taupes
  • greys
  • silvers
  • black
  • blues
  • soft oranges
  • corals and light pinks
  • bright vibrant colors! (especially cool toned purples)
